What You Should Know about Getting Invisalign®

Invisalign® clear aligners are a great alternative to braces! Their clear plastic design and removability make them an excellent option for patients who don’t want to commit to the glue and wires that come with braces.

However, there are four things you should know about this orthodontic treatment before you decide if it is right for you:

  1. You and your doctor should determine if Invisalign® clear aligner treatment is right for you!
  2. You need to wear your clear aligners for at least 22 hours each day
  3. While you have more meal options than traditional braces, there are still some foods and drinks to avoid
  4. Give Dr. Bell a call to decide what’s best for you!

Work with Your Doctor to Determine if Invisalign® is Right for You!

This orthodontic treatment is widespread; however, not everyone might be a good fit for it based on their case. The first thing you need to know about this product is that it works better for certain cases, while braces might work better for others. Dr. Bell will work with you and your smile to determine if Invisalign®  Clear Aligners are right for you.

Clear aligners are not a one-size-fits-all type of treatment. Just like braces, this is a tool for a dentist or orthodontist to use for straightening teeth. Make sure you work with your doctor and their team in determining if Invisalign® aligners will be a good option for giving you the results you want.

While clear aligners may be able to straighten your teeth, your doctor might be able to straighten them even more with braces. Don’t worry; this is what the consultation process is all about!

Wear Your Aligners!

Yes, everyone loves that Invisalign® Clear Aligners are fully removable. You can eat what you want, when you want, by simply taking them out. However, to keep your orthodontic treatment on track, you need to be consistent in wearing them.

Dr. Bell recommends that to do its job quickly, with the best results, treatment should be worn for an average of 22 hours a day. Yes, this means you must wear your Invisalign® Clear Aligners to bed, have them in at school, at the office, etc.

Nothing good comes easy, and while clear aligners make orthodontic treatment flexible, patients still have to put in the time if they want to get the smile they’ve always dreamed of having.

Avoid Hot Liquids!

You should keep your Invisalign® aligners in as much as possible; however, take them out when drinking hot liquids!

Beverages like tea and coffee, while soothing and delicious, have been known to warp the plastic material the treatment is made of. Patients should always be aware of what they are drinking and if their clear aligners are in their mouths during consumption.

Yes, not wearing your clear aligners will postpone the results of treatment, but so will warping it to the point where it does not fit onto your smile.
